The Stick
Stick is the most important in a drum
set, without it, it is like guns without bullet. In this blog I would like to
teach
So how are we supposed to handle sticks?
Most common wrong in drummers is their
grip on the drum stick is too hard. It is better to grip the stick as soft as
you can handle it.
Why? Because the right smash to the
snare, toms, or cymbals (any kind) must bounce back.
So where do you touch the stick?
For novices, the
easiest grip style to begin with is usually American grip. It is easy to
learn and a good mix of power and controlling. Curl your index finger and find
the balance point where it will bounce of easily. Place your thumb on the drum
stick followed by curling the rest of your finger
So how will you smash
the drum stick?
Some drummers use
their arm for striking the drum set. This is not a good idea cause it takes a
lot of energy, cease your arm and you can’t control the power. What you must do
is use your wrist instead of arm for it will bounce the stick automatically.
